Chautauqua
Description
THE CHAUTAUQUA - Direct Oceanfront - Best Beach - Best House (7 BD 6.5 BA - Sleeps 21)
"LOOKS STRAIGHT OUT OF POTTERY BARN" - Rebuilt in 2006 from the studs up to maintain the integrity of the original 1926 bungalow there is painstaking attention to detail from the Original Heart of Pine floors and reclaimed 1924 Bead Board to the New Stone Baths and 1st floor Stone Floors. With 2 Greatrooms, 2 Kitchens, 3 Porches, huge Bonus Room, Pool Table, Piano & large Oceanfront Lawn there is plenty of room for 2 or more families to come together away from their daily grind, to enjoy each other, the sun & the surf and "create memories". Check out the WALK THRU Videos under the Floor Plan Tab. It is the best way to get a feel of the house. Just use your mouse to walk thru. I think you will love it. And here is a new BIrdseye Video to show how close we are to the Sea and the Restaurants. CLICK HERE
2 GREATROOMS - It starts with the Open Great room - 24 foot long – which acts as the main focal point of the house with the TV, Kitchen, Dining and 4 Bedrooms on each corner. I fell in love the minute I saw it and knew I had to restore it to is former glory. I think we surpassed it. We kept the original 1926 quarried Coquina fireplace (now with lovely electric flames). It is REAL Coquina - not what they make houses of now - Just like the Fort you will see in Old St Augustine! The Bead board wainscoted is also from the original house, carefully removed and restored. The floors are original Heart of Pine, sanded back to their original glory. They don’t even grow wood like that anymore. Even the interior doors, all 8 foot, were patterned after the originals. There is loads of molding, all “in period”, specially milled. We even found the old picture mold with hooks for hanging photos instead of nails. On the 1st Floor we did All STONE FLOORS throughout. I even did Stone on the walls on the Outdoor Covered Lanai.
2 KITCHENS & 2 LAUNDRIES - Then we started adding the NEW touches. A state of the art Gourmet Kitchen. Full wood Cherry Mission cabinets with tumbled marble backsplash and gorgeous seascape metallic tile accents. The most unusual Granite I had ever seen. Looks like sand. The Main Kitchen includes Double Ovens, Microwave, Stainless Farm Sink and large Eating Bar and Honed Chisel-edged Stone floors. Downstairs is a second complete Kitchen with striking glass block backsplash, so plenty of room for all the cooks. Both with a full array of cooking tools, dishes, pots and pans to create your most cherished family recipes. Plus 2 Laundries.
6 DINING AREAS - There is a large Dining Table for 10 + Bar Stools on the Main level + a 1st floor Dining table for 7 + high 2 stool table. Outdoor we have 1 table on the Main Covered Porch + 1 on the open Patio & 1 on the First floor and 1 on the 3rd. Lots of tables.
FOR ENTERTAINMENT - A PIANO & GAMES. You have to have a Piano at a beach house. So we have a music corner with Piano, Guitar, flute and bamboo xylophone for your enjoyment. Games? Cards? I am big on games so there are lots of Board Games. Rummikub is our Family Favorite. Please try it. Call for instructions or Google it. I promise you will always be glad you did. We play it 5 to 95.
BONUS ROOM - POOL TABLE/WET BAR/KIDS HANG OUT/BALCONY VIEW/5 BEDS/1 BATH - Most would agree that the 3rd floor BONUS ROOM is the show place. Whereas the adults will enjoy it for the full size POOL TABLE and WET BAR with antique corner sink and microwave for late night popcorn. For the kids, it is the SLEEPING BERTHS they will be fighting over. This is their place to "Hang". There are 3 Single Berths complete with individual reading lights, TVs, DVDs and under bed Storage Drawers for all their “stuff”. You will have to pull them away to get them down to the beach. Plus a Full Futon Alcove on the left that doubles as a bed and an extra Single Daybed/Couch, so 6 in all. The bath is a classic. All white subway tile wainscot with mosaic floor and glass inlay band in the tub/shower combo. The sink looks like a piece of furniture with Granite top & white Vessel Sink.
And there is an UNSURPASSED VIEW from the Balcony. Arched and Covered recessed into the house for sun and wind protection, you can enjoy the view from another teak table and chair set and take some quite time to read a book from The Chautauqua’s LIBRARY or play one of our Board Games listening to the surf.
3 PORCHES - The Oceanfront porch is probably one of the best assets. There are 3. This is where you will spend most of your time so there is LOTS of seating - All Teak Wood. On the Main Level we have Rockers & Adirondacks, benches & 2 sets of table and chairs – one on the porch and the other on the Patio. There is also an Upstairs Balcony off the Pool Table room and a Stone Covered Patio on the 1st Floor with more seating and glass topped dining.
OUTDOOR GRILL/SHOWER/BEACH CHAIRS - There are 2 outdoor showers. Plenty of Beach Chairs & Boogie Boards + Beach toys and Towels. Also a New Grill Trellis Area with Gas provided.
PARKING - There are 2 single garages and room for 2 more cars on the paver patio so that all 4 can get out. If you need more space there is room for 2 more cars but it will block the rest, so a total of 6 Parking Spots.

The other Master with West Indies style Canopy Bed features a bath of taupe colored stone with inset blue glass, a SOAKING TUB/SHOWER combo, White Cottage Vanity with matching Storage Cabinet, Granite tops and Stone Vessel Bowl sink. Also done in Nickel fixtures. The 3rd Master also comes with a Private Bath. The walls are Bead Board with a Queen Canopy Bed + fold down single sofa. Bedroom 4 also has a Bead Board wainscot with a Queen bed. It uses the Powder room and the Bonus Room Shower.
FIRST FLOOR - The 1st Floors has 2 Queen Bedrooms and 2 baths. One is Ocean side with Queen bed and Sliding doors out to a Covered Porch. It would use the Classic White Subway Garden Tub Bath that is shared with the Greatroom. The Second Bedroom, also Queen, has a Private Marble Bath with walk-in Shower and Spa style lighting and lovely mirror night light. There is also a Queen Sofa in the Greatroom that would share the Subway Tile bath.
All Bedrooms come with TVs. Most with DVD players. Plus Wireless Internet.
BEST BEACH - So HOW IS THE BEACH? Great question. St Aug Beaches vary widely. You should ask for details if you are considering anything other than a home with an address of 1 to 18th Street.
First, the Ocean is " Right At Your Door Step”. There are no long dunes or raised boardwalks with a 5-10 minute walk to navigate with the cooler & chairs before you ever get to the water like at Butler Beach to the South.
Second, there are "No Cars". This is a major distinction. Imagine trying to play paddle ball with cars continually passing by & having to be on constant baby alert. Not while you are on vacation! Note everything south of our home, almost all the way to Marineland, allows "Cars Driving on the Beach".
Third, the beach is wide, level & private with "Great Waves". The Beaches to the North at Vilano and South Ponte Vedra are very narrow. At high tide there can almost be "No" Beach. And in some areas they are steep or with rocks. It's almost impossible to ride the waves as they break right at the sand. The locals consider the Chautauqua some of the best surfing around. There is a wonderful Surf shop with lessons & rentals right at the end of our street though you can have plenty of fun with the boogie boards we provide for free.
You can actually see my waves 24 hr a day on their website. They have a webcam on my house. To check it out, search Pit Surf Cam. We are also not crowded, which is important during this time or social distancing, as we have no High Rise Condos or Hotels nearby.
Fourth, we are walking distance to "Wonderful Local Restaurants". Who wants to cook every meal or have to drive to dinner. Just WALK. Check it out online. All great. Some with Music. Plus Ice Cream Shops and Pizza. All the beaches to the north and south are very isolated. You will have to drive for everything. Just ask and I will forward you my "Recommended Restaurants and Things To Do".
Fifth, you will love our "Powdered Sand". The Chautauqua’s sand is like powder, not coarse ground up shells like Vilano. Great for drip castles which is our "Family Tradition". Check that out online too.
Last but not least, we are only " 5 Miles to Historic Downtown". There is more to St Augustine that just the Beach. Our Downtown, founded in 1565, is the oldest continuously occupied European Settlement in the US and one of the Top 6 Florida destinations according to US News & World Reports. (They rank us #2 Best Affordable Honeymoon Destination and our Beach #5 in USA). You'll feel like you are back in time. Strolling Old World Walking Streets. Romantic Lighting. Outdoor Music filling the air. There are scores Historic Sights and fabulous Restaurants. I recommend going at night. With both the Beach and the History, St Augustine is truly a "Must Do" experience.
